Director, Kevin Brownell CPP, is secretary of the DBC and has played an integral role in its formation. He is a director and the co-founder of NuXform who help organisations define and deliver SMaRT building technology for new and existing buildings and estates. They work with clients in a range of sectors, including universities, corporates, law and finance firms, providing a full end-to-end service or consulting on part of the journey.
An Independent Ally
For the best long-term outcomes, NuXform advocate for SMaRT having specialist focus.
They partner as independent consultants to provide this for the organisations and project teams they work with. Acting as a trusted ally, they work in their clients’ interests without tie or bias to solutions or suppliers.
SMaRT is complex and differs for every organisation and project. NuXform set vision. Detail what can be achieved. Document it. Procure the right solutions. Manage implementation and optimisation.

SMaRT Consultants
NuXform are SmartScore accredited. The team of consultants have extensive experience in the SMaRT building sector, working as both client and contractor in the delivery and ongoing optimisation of projects. Understanding of the challenges organisations face, they bring rigour, technical ability and in-depth market knowledge.
According to Kevin:
We stand for a new way of doing things. Our approach is about getting to know humans, first. Understanding the purpose and drivers of the organisations we partner with and developing a plan which builds them as pillars of their SMaRT roadmap. Engaging at the earliest stage and sharing our insight and expertise, we can drive the best outcomes.
Kevin recently moderated the DBC’s ‘Harmonizing demand for smart buildings’ panel at Smart Buildings Show last month and you can read some of the highlights kindly covered by DBC’s chair Jess Costanzo on Linkedin. He will next be speaking about ‘Navigating the Digital Buildings Retrofit challenge in the drive towards NetZero’ at the BSRIA Briefing 2024 – Sustainable Futures: Redefining Retrofit for Net Zero Living summit on 22 November 2024.
You can also read a recent article by the Nuxform team in Electrical Contracting News where they introduce the DBC and also explain SMaRT buildings and how they work, and the opportunity that they believe exists for electrical contractors and facilities managers to add value and get on the front foot.
There’s more from the Nuxform team on their SMaRT Thinking blog and you can read the profile of Aleksandra Dasala on here. Aleks recently joined Nuxform having previously headed up WiredScore’s SmartScore research and she also helped co-facilate the round table earlier this year that was the catalyst for the formation of the DBC (check out the summart report she co-wrote on Smart Buildings Magazine).
The DBC will be exhibiting at the London Build Expo on Stand M18 (20-21 Nov), please come and say hello. In the meantime, stay connected by following the DBC on LinkedIn for the latest updates, events and insights from the founding members and reach out to learn how to join our community and contribute to our mission.
