Joining the Digital Buildings

The Digital Buildings Council (DBC) is a collaborative community committed to enabling end-to-end digital transformation throughout the built environment. As a not-for-profit industry group, our impact is driven by the active participation of our members.

We offer two distinct tiers of membership, designed to cater to different levels of engagement and contribution, each vital to our mission:

1. Corporate Membership

Corporate membership is for organisations that wish to actively lead and shape the future of digital buildings through direct participation in our Project Initiatives and broader Working Groups. As a Corporate Member, your company contributes significantly to fulfilling the DBC’s aims through knowledge sharing, thought leadership, and active involvement across all facets of our work.

Corporate Membership is currently by invite-only for companies who:

  • Support the aims of the DBC.
  • Agree to our Member Code of Conduct.
  • Agree to our Member Commitments, linked to active participation around our key Focus Areas.
  • Agree not to bring the DBC into disrepute.

More detailed information about the Corporate Membership application process, including our full Constitution, Code of Conduct, and specific Membership Commitments, will be provided as part of the application.

2. Individual Membership (Trial Phase)

To broaden participation and ensure diverse perspectives, particularly around key initiatives like the RIBA Smart Buildings Overlay 2.0 Review, the DBC is trialling an Individual Membership tier. This is ideal for professionals passionate about the digital built environment who wish to engage more proactively with our community and contribute to our ongoing work.

How Individual Members Can Engage:

  • Active Community Participation: Individual members gain access to our dedicated Circle Community platform, enabling them to participate actively in discussions around our Focus Areas and Project Initiatives.
  • Direct Review Opportunities: Be automatically invited to review core output from our Project Initiatives, providing valuable feedback that directly shapes industry guidance.
  • Event Engagement: Receive invitations to dedicated online and in-person sessions (such as the recent Digital Construction Week panels and other planned events) where they can ask questions of Project Initiative participants and meet the teams.
  • RIBA Smart Buildings Overlay Review: Individual members will have enhanced opportunities to participate in discussions related to our flagship RIBA Smart Buildings Overlay 2.0 Review, beyond simply filling out a public survey.

Important Note on Individual Membership Costs:

As this particular review is not externally sponsored, and there are licensing costs associated with our community platform, as well as administrative costs for running the platform and facilitating discussions, a charge will apply for Individual Membership. Details of these costs will be provided during the trial phase.

Distinction from Corporate Membership:

Individual Membership does not confer the same degree of involvement as Corporate Membership. Individual Members will not be able to instigate Project Initiatives, nominate Steering Committee or other members, nor will they be part of formal project teams. However, it provides a vital pathway for proactive discussion and contribution to our collective goals.
