Our Executive Director, Justin Kirby ihas been included in the 2025 Power Players list compiled by Digital Construction Plus. This was primarily due to what they consider his leadership and significant contributions to advancing smart assets, especially smart buildings, within the construction industry. Below, we’ve included a breakdown of the key reasons for his inclusion:
- Executive Officer of the Digital Buildings Council (DBC): his role in helping launch and run the day-to-day of the DBC has a major factor. The DBC is recognized for its crucial work in tackling widespread market confusion, addressing the gap between technology promises and reality, and developing holistic approaches to calculating ROI for smart buildings.
- Addressing the “New vs. Retrofit” Challenge: his actively highlighting a critical oversight in the initial RIBA Smart Buildings Overlay—its failure to differentiate between new builds and retrofitting existing structures. His swift identification of this issue and his involvement in developing version 2.0 is something they see as addressing this, demonstrating his forward-thinking approach and influence.
- Expertise in Smart Assets and Information Management: The description emphasises that smart assets are the “next frontier for information management to interface with,” and his selection directly represents this area. He’s seen as someone who understands the complex collaborative challenges smart assets present to various stakeholders.
In essence, he has been recognised for his help driving the DBC’s aims of providing clarity, practical solutions, and facilititing industry-wide collaboration in the rapidly evolving field of smart buildings.
We will be announcing more on how you will able to get involved in the collaboration on the review of the Smart Buidlings Overlay soon.
